Discovering Your MBTI Type: A Journey of Self-Understanding

If you’ve taken the MBTI Inventory, you’ve uncovered your unique personality type. You’re part of a select group—less than 1% of the global population—who have delved into their personality profiling.

The Value of Type Dynamics

This small percentage is fortunate to have explored type dynamics. Your four-letter code reveals your preferences, which guide your behavior most of the time. However, it’s important to recognize that other preferences can emerge unexpectedly.

Reflecting on 20 Years of Experience

Over the past 20 years, many individuals have approached me after taking the MBTI assessment and receiving their debriefing report. Often, they revisit their reports seeking clarity on persistent issues they couldn’t resolve. These “returning engagements” highlight the ongoing need for support and understanding of one’s personality type.

Simplifying Type Dynamics

Understanding type dynamics can be straightforward if approached one dichotomy at a time. While some dichotomies like Extraversion/Introversion (EI) and Judging/Perceiving (JP) are easier to grasp, others like Sensing/Intuition (SN) and Thinking/Feeling (TF) can be more challenging.

Focus on One Preference at a Time

Rather than trying to comprehend everything at once, focus on one preference at a time. Gradually, you’ll internalize all the preferences. Don’t get confined by your four-letter code. Be flexible and resilient, and revisit your report multiple times. Reach out to an MBTI administrator for guidance and clarity.

Understanding the Cognitive Function Stack

The cognitive function stack—comprising your dominant, auxiliary, tertiary, and inferior functions—adds complexity to your type. To understand this aspect, become familiar with your best-fit type.

Keeping Engagement Alive

To maintain engagement with type dynamics, I’ve developed smaller quiz-like assessments. These self-assessments help you gauge your understanding of each preference pair. There are five assessments, increasing in complexity, called Typify assessments, available on Google Forms. From Typify to Typify Advance, these quizzes offer a great opportunity to test your knowledge of type dynamics. Many have tried the basic levels, and some have completed the advanced quiz, providing positive feedback.
